Houses away from Home
Houses away from HOME
Houses away from HOME is an installation made of a group of photos ( total 18) : 5 streets photos taken in Palermo in 1998 ( the city where the artist was born), 2 panoramic photos were taken back in 2003 during her very first trip to Istanbul ( Sultan Ahmet and a random house ), 11 photos of NY taken in 2001 ( the year she arrived to NY ), 2 metaphoric images of NYC ( postcard of Lady Liberty and THE END).
Each wall is showing and grouping the 3 cities where the artist lived ( Palermo- Istanbul- NY) and still lives: the past that re-connects to the present and her current search and hope of reconnection to a place ( HOME) / a world/ a society that is currently disconnected.
The rainbow- colored thread highlights the perimeter of area/ room/ house-oracle where at the center of it, stays a neoclassical capital (= historical/ artistic heritage) that holds a pending black wool yarn ( = our disconnected society) and a little card emphasizes the following words in turkish: DIKKAT KIRILIR.
