Elisa Sassera is an Italian visual artist who lives and works between Palermo, NYC and Istanbul .
Born in Palermo, Sicily, she attended Classical Studies followed by a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art cum laude at the Fine Art Academy of Palermo, being guided under the wings of artist and professor Carlo Lauricella.
In June of 2001 she was selected for an Internship from Creative Time: Art in the Anchorage at the Brooklyn Bridge and that is how her adventure in NYC started.
Sassera works in several media including installations, painting, prints and photographs, mixed media collages and illustrations inspired by her new surroundings. The subject matter of her artistic expression is an exploration of semiotics and communication, cultural heritage and tradition, myth and philosophy, Idendity and Memory.
She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Italy and NYC.
She has been assisting in projects for fashion designer Marina Spadafora, NYC based Photographer Gail Albert Halaban, Fiber Artist and designer Dana Barnes and worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Christie's.
For the past fifteen years she has been teaching Visual Arts to children in private and public schools in NYC, Italy and Istanbul.
In July of 2015 she decided to move with her family to Istanbul to start a new adventure: Casa Bimbi Cihangir.
She is the founder, educator and the atelierista at Casa Bimbi Cihangir: a trilingual Reggio Emilia Inspired philosophical and educational center for children that never want to grow up!
